Become a Volunteer

At the Kings Cross Community Centre, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Their generosity, energy, and spirit help us support our community each and every day — in ways both big and small.

In our much-loved KX Op Shop, volunteers keep things humming by sorting donations, steaming clothing, pricing items, and helping create a friendly, welcoming space for everyone who walks through the door. Whether you enjoy organising, chatting with locals, or simply lending a helping hand, there’s a place for you.

Beyond the shop, our volunteers make a meaningful difference in the lives of our older community members. They offer lifts to medical appointments, accompany clients on shopping trips, or take the time to connect over a cup of coffee. These small acts of kindness help combat isolation and ensure that everyone feels supported and valued.

I value the company and friendship of my fellow volunteers, which makes every shift a pleasure.
— Julie - KXCC Volunteer

Volunteers also play an essential role in the day-to-day operations of the Centre. From reception duties to general office support, they help keep things running smoothly so we can continue offering vital services to the community.

There are many benefits to becoming a volunteer. When you join us, you become part of something bigger — a community built on connection, compassion, and shared purpose. You can contribute your time, strengths, and skills to help create a welcoming and supportive environment for people of all ages and backgrounds. Volunteering is also a wonderful way to feel connected, meet new people, and make a positive difference close to home.

Joining our volunteer team is easy. You can drop into the KX Op Shop and fill out a form in person, or fill out one online using the button below. Completed forms can be handed in at the office during the week or at the KXCC Op Shop over the weekend. Once we receive your form, you’ll be invited to attend a 45-minute volunteer induction session where you’ll learn more about who we are, what we do, and the history of the Kings Cross Community Centre.

We’d love to have you join us — and be part of the Kings Cross community.

  • Please note that for insurance purposes all volunteers and staff must hold a valid NSW police check. You can either provide us with a recent one - not more than 12 months old - or we can send you a link to submit two forms of ID to start the process. KXCC covers the cost of a new Police Check.
